Health education is any combination of learning experiences designed to help individuals and communities improve their health, by increasing their knowledge or influencing their attitudes. (WHO, 2019).
Here in Paterson, our goal is to address our community’s specific health needs through health education that is easy to understand and made available to all.
As a Health Educator for the city of Paterson, our role is to:
- Assess needs, resources, and capacity for health education
- Plan health education
- Implement health education
- Conduct evaluation and research related to health education
- Administer and manage health education
- Serve as a health education resource person
- Communicate, promote, and advocate for health, health education, and the profession
The Paterson Division of Health provides health education in various settings such as:
- Schools
- Community agencies/organizations
- Non-Profit organizations
- Faith based organizations
- Health fairs/events
